“seasons of change”

pillar mosaic

Fargo, ND | 2024

“Seasons of Change” was my first experimentation with tile and creating a mosaic. It is about the varying seasons in our world, bodies, and lives.

Iris flowers sprout and bloom, storms build and fall, the moon waxes and wanes, and our own bodies grow and shift with the seasons. In the mosaic, these natural elements reflect the ever-changing inner landscapes of our energetic realms and material lives. Paying homage to the historic Black Building, I drew from traditional art deco styles to create the design.

One of the greatest learnings in my life has been “the only constant is change”, and how to embrace that instead of fear it. My mosaic is an embrace of how beautiful, and necessary, change is in our world.

This project was concepted by Tommy Schmidt, who helped with the proposal and project management. It was funded by the City of Fargo Arts & Culture Commission. Install was assisted by Sally Williamson, Dexter Dutton, and Jackson Cown.
